I was flicking through pics of places I’ve visited lately, and I realised that I’ve never shared one of my fave Korean spots on Dig In Daegu! Shocking! So today you are in for an absolute TREAT. I’ve been visiting this place for years and never been disappointed, so I’m excited to share MacArthur Kitchen with you today. Especially if you like kimchi you are gonna LOVE this place.

Located in Myeongdeok, MacArthur kitchen is located between Namsan and Myeondeok Stations on the yellow (and red) line. It also has good bus access with many buses stopping around this area. Walk down from the main road and you will spot the restaurant on your left. Keep your eyes peeled because it’s easy to miss! Enter through the passage with the stone flooring and the door is on your left.

While they do have ample seating inside on busy days you may have to wait for a table, but trust me it’s worth it! So either grab a seat if one is free or write your name and number on the chart near the door. The inside has a cute rustic feel like a little country cottage, CUTE. I especially love the kettles they use for pouring water!

The main menu item here is the pressure cooker kimchi stew. You can choose from different meats to add as the main, pork belly 9,500won (오겹살), pork neck 9,000won (목살), or fish 9,000 (꽁치 – I think this is a kind of mackeral??? Not 100% sure lol). I usually go for the pork neck as I prefer a less fatty cut of meat. Prices listed are per person and each one comes with a portion of rice and a fried egg included. They also do a pork soup main 9,000. They also offer a range of sides, but my fave is the cheesy bread topping 4,900 (치즈미니빠네). They bring some banchan (mini sides) and you can refill these as much as you want from the self-serve bar, just save room for the main!

Once your food is ready they bring the pressure cooker out to the table. It’s fun because you get to watch all the steam blow out! They then pour everything into a big sharing bowl in the middle and chop up the meat and kimchi for you. If you like smaller bite sized pieces don’t worry, they leave the scissors for you. Then just dig in! Because of the way it’s cooked the meat is so TENDER and melts in your mouth. I also love mixing the kimchi stew in with the rice and egg, DELICIOUS. It’s perfect food for the winter too, that stuff will warm your soul.

My one last tip is wear dark clothes to this restaurant! As it’s a stew it’s sooooo easy to splash, so no favourite white shirts unless you wanna be disappointed ahahaha! I hope you go check out this yummy hidden spot!
