Anyone else noticed it’s bloody cold outside? Fortunately, there are some upsides to these chill Korean winters, mainly that it’s my favourite season for street fooooooooooooood. And one of the top contenders for my top sneaky street snack has got to be bungeo-ppang (the fish shaped breads with fillings). My only issue with this delicious treat is that I am not a huge fan of red bean paste, and that is the main filling for these tasty little snacks usually. Sometimes I get lucky and pass a store selling the custard cream ones and end up buying 10 of the little buggers as a treat but that doesn’t happen every day (sadly).
So imagine how happy I was to stumble across this street cart that doesn’t only do red bean and custard cream, but also SEVERAL OTHER FILLINGS and is only 2 stops from my house??? AHHHHHHH. EXCITE!!!!! This little street cart offers more exciting fillings like cheese, pizza, sweet potato, apple, kimchi, and peanut butter!!!!!
I have no idea why other places don’t experiment with other fillings but I’m so happy this lady is thinking outside the box. I wanted to try them all, but sadly I only have one belly and she has a min order of two of each flavour. I was in a savoury mood so decided to give the cheese flavour and pizza flavour a go. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. They were both soooooo yummy and hit the spot for the after work snack to keep you going till dinner. I def will be back again to try out the rest of these enticing flavours.
The cart is open daily 2pm to 10pm and is located outside the Daegu Bank a short walk from Hyeonchungno Exit 1. Prices vary from 1000 to 1500 per bread, bring cash or make a bank transfer. GET EM WHILE THEY’RE HOT!
