I’ve been getting out and about a lot lately, it’s the season to meet people and catch up of course! And last weekend I got an unexpected text from an old Korean friend asking if I was free for coffee this week. I asked her to recommend somewhere as I’m always keen to try new places, espcecially if I can find a place to recommend here! She suggested we met at People’s Coffee in Bongsan-dong, so we made plans for a cold evening catch up.

To get to People’s Coffee you can take the subway to Banwoldang, and walk directly down the street by Exit 9. It is a bit of a walk though, so you might want to check on Kakao and Naver if there is a bus closer by if walking isn’t your thing. However, if you do decide to walk it does give you the chance to see all the cute little spots this street has to offer. I’ll be updating the blog later with some more brunch spots, cafes, and even a wine store on this street so keep your eyes out!

People’s Coffee is located at the end of the street, and was easy to spot at night as it is brightly lit with fairy lights. It has such a cute and welcoming atmosphere right from the start! The building itself is a very unique design. The seating area and the ordering counter are seperated by a path running through the middle. While I went in the middle of winter, it seems they also have loads of cute little spots to sit outside once it gets warmer.

I took a seat in the indoor seating area and waited for my friend. You could choose from low tables, bar style seating, and there was a cosy nook in one corner but sadly it was taken. I got a spot by the window. After my friend arrived we walked back out to the ordering point to check out the menu.

They had a good selection of coffees here alongside some teas and ades. Added bonus, the owner speaks excellent English and offered to help translate or answer any questions about the menu. My friend got an earl grey, and I decided to try their signature coffee. The signature is a nutty peanut toffee espresso milk coffee and is only served ice. It sounded interesting so I thought I’d give it a go. They also had a great selection of cakes and sweets so we both got some cake to split.

The owner brought the drinks and cakes out to use once they were ready. Presentation-wise they were super cute and perfect for taking pictures for Insta haha. Luckily the taste also matched the appearance! The basque cheesecake was rich and creamy, and the strawberry cake was a nice balance between the spongey cake and light cream. The coffee I ordered was also delicious, it had a rich, deep, nutty taste that was very unique. It was easy to spend an hour and a half there just chatting and catching up. So, if you’re in the area drop by! I’m sure you’ll love this cosy spot as much as I did!
