So here I was thinking that EVERY foreigner in Daegu had heard of La Salud, it’s the go to restaurant for so many of my friends I just assumed everyone had been there. So imagine my surprise when I was chatting to someone who’d been here almost a year and NEVER heard of it! To be fair though, I only went for the first time last winter, and got the chance to finally go again this past weekend, so I’ll let them off this time ;p But it made me think I should add this foreigner hotspot to the blog in case there were others out there who hadn’t yet been to this yummy American BBQ joint right by Suseong Lake!

La Salud is pretty easy to find, it’s a short walk from the Suseong Lake stop on the yellow line (line 3, the monorail) and for those who drive it also has parking. We love an easy to access restaurant haha. You can find it on a strip of restauarnts and cafes that runs along the opposite side of the road to the lake. So, makes a perfect stop for dinner after a nice walk.

Inside is American themed (I’m assuming, what do I know though I’m British) with ample seating so you can usually find a spot even on busy days. They have big TVs set up too which have always been showing sports when I’ve visited. So when you walk in choose a spot to sit in and grab a menu. Place your order at the bar when you’re ready and pay in advance.

The menu has quite a lot of options, including burgers, sandwiches, and specials (like fish and chips woo! Very American). I’ve heard good things about the burgers, but so far I’ve only ever been for the BBQ menu and honestly I think that this is the main attraction for this place. You can choose how many different meats you want from a selection including brisket, ribs, chicken, sausage, and pulled pork. Yummy! Depending on the platter size you also get a choice of sides from mash and gravy, mac and cheese, annnnd…. I forget the others because these are seriously the only two you need haha. They also have a range of drinks including beers, wines, and even shakes!

Both times I’ve visited I’ve split a 2 meat BBQ platter between two people. This costs from 33,000 depending on what meats you order. While it’s not the cheapest meal out, the food is verrrrry good so I think worth it. The portions are better than most other places that offer American BBQ too (though if you’re like me you might still be wanting dessert after haha).

The first time I went we got the pork ribs and pulled pork platter. The platters also come with coleslaw and bread. Luckily my friend wasn’t too hungry so I polished a lot of it off hehe.

The second time we got the pork ribs and brisket, the brisket was an extra 3,000 but worth it because it was super yummy on the bread with some BBQ sauce. Would def order again. Both times I had the mash and gravy and mac and cheese as sides because they are both sooooo good. Like honestly I don’t think I would ever order any other sides because I could easily eat at least a tub of each to myself.

Bonus, they even do take out! So one time I brought mac and cheese home for the bf. Got some points in there hehe. So, if you’re in the area I would def recommend visiting here at least once to give it a try. To be honest I would even travel there just for La Salud if I had a hankering for American BBQ. What do you think? Please let me know in the comments!
