Welcome back to day 2 of my top Korean eats in Daegu! Today’s feature is a lovely hidden spot right in the middle of downtown. Sobandang is easy to miss from the street, but if you can find the entrance you’ll be met with chic decor and delicious Korean food. Read on to find out more 🙂

Hidden garden entrance!

Even when I was looking for this restaurant, I found it a little hard to locate. It’s situated on one of the side streets that link the main road by Jungangro Station and the main stage area on the central strip of downtown. Use the links above to help you find it. The outside is just a white sign above a doorway (see above) and a poster showing the food, so it’s pretty easy to walk past. Once you enter the door, a winding plant-lined path takes you further back into the building. It’s so cute just from the entrance, but wait till you get inside!

I absolutely LOVED the decor inside Sobandang! It felt very clean and modern, but the plants gave a kind of rustic and homely feel too. It was just a very peaceful place to be. Plus there was plenty of seating, with single chairs down the centre or larger tables for groups of 4. It was nice to just have a look around and see all the cute plants and other decorations. They had a long mirror too, love a good photo op!

The menu has two main items on offer, 콩나물밥 정식 (includes rice, Korean banchan sides, soup, and beansprout bulgogi meat) and 옛국수 (choice of kimchi or bibim noodles, Korean banchan sides, and beansprout rice) and each costs 9,500 for one person. We ordered two of the first option, as it includes bulgogi, and a side of 감자전 (Korean pancakes made with potato) 7,000.

Honestly, it was a loooooot of food ahahaha. We maybe could have done without the potato pancakes, however they were very yummy so, no regrets! We got a good portion of meat, plus all the sides were verrrrrry tasty. The beansprout rice had too many beansprouts for my taste, but from my experience it’s common here to give an abundance of them so kind of expected it. We managed to polish off most of the food and left with very full bellys. A bonus point was also how friendly the lady working there was. She didn’t speak English but was happy to show us how to eat things and was overall very kind and welcoming.

So if you’re ever downtown and craving some of the Korean good stuff give this place a try!
