To get there, check Naver or Kakao for the closest bus stops, however it is walkable from downtown (took us around 20 minutes to get to bar street after) and about a 15 minute walk from Kyung-dae Hospital Station.

Hey guys! Once again I’m back with another great find, and honestly I am SO excited to share this place with you because it is now one of my new top yummy restaurants in Daegu! The name is Richard1010, a cosy little Mexican place on a side street in Samdeok-dong. You may have seen them on Facebook or Insta, if so have you been? If not… WHY? It is honestly some of the most delicious Mexican food I’ve had in Daegu (probably in all of Korea!) and if you haven’t been yet you are really missing out. Read on to find out why!

Richard1010 is located in the lovely neighbourhood of Samdeok-dong, and if you haven’t been yet it is definitely worth a visit. The whole area has an almost European, metropolitan feel, packed with fancy restaurants, unique cafes, and great little spots for a drink and some bar food. Definietly a great neighbourhood to check out! But for now let’s get back to today’s feature…

Richard 1010 is located on a side street in Samdeok-dong, less than a 20 minute walk from Kyung-dae Hospital Station. From the outside the restuarant looks inviting, the big windows were filled with little flowers, a poster board, and wine bottles. Cute! Inside was nicely decroated with bunting, posters, a booze shelf, and cosy furnishings. It really added to the vibe of the place and we immediately felt comfy and welcomed, both by the clean interior and friendly staff. We had made a reservation in advance so had a table ready for us. We ordered some drinks while we looked over the menu (see below).

The menu has a lot to offer, with the focus being on Mexican dishes and pizza. We started off with two Tequila Sunrises (6,000 won each and absolutely delicious) and decided to forgo the pizza for today and just order a selection of Mexican food. They also provided a serving of nachos and salsa as service, and the salsa was perfect!

We had already had a look at the menu on the way over so had a good idea what we wanted, the staff also provided recommendations on what we might enjoy. Luckily enough, the two recommended items were things we wanted to try anyways! They were the birria quesadillas (13,500) and the chicken enchilada (14,000), and we also decided to try the pork tacos (9,000). Usually when I eat out at Mexican places in Korea the portions are too small for the price, so being hungry we decided to opt for three dishes. However, the portions were really decent here and we left too full to walk! Which is honestly great because it made it much better value for money compared to some other places. See below for details of each menu item!

The birria quesadillas were probably our favourite menu item, stuff with meat and flavour they were absolutely DELICIOUS. They were absolutely stuffed to the brim and so so filling but worth every bite. They were recently added to the menu so definitely head down and give them a try.

Next is the tacos, and I was a bit apprehensive because they came with chunks of pineapple. I have since been informed that this dish name is Tacos Al Pastor and a legit style of making tacos in Mexico. It sounded like an unusual food combo at first, but the taste was amazing and the portions big, so I was really satisfied with these.

Last is the enchilada, and I’m not going to lie I have had a couple of bad expeiences with enchiladas in Korea coming out wet and soggy, yuck! However this one was perfect, the chicken was kind of shredded, it was full of flavour, and the size was huge. Can’t go wrong ordering this.

Richard1010 opened in 2021, and while it has become a hit with their Korean clientele it has yet to make a big splash in the foreigner scene. However after visiting I find it hard to understand why, and really hope this post encourages you to visit! The chef is Mexican and it is the most legitimate, authentic Mexican food I’ve had here (as a white Brit I’m no expert but have had had this confirmed by those more knowledgeable, so you can trust them!) The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, with cute decor and lively music, great drinks and food, and English speaking staff. What’s not to like? Hop on down and try for yourself!
