The Daegu summer is really here! How are you coping with that Daefrica heat? Even after several years here it’s still a struggle getting through these hot and humid summers, and unfortrunately Daegu is landlocked so you can’t even escape to the beach without a ride on the KTX. Luckily I’ve found the perfect spot to fill all your beach needs, right here in Daegu. Sun beds, swimming, and cocktails, all conveniently located in Dalseo-gu for a reasonable price? Tell us more!

Elybaden is a jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouse/spa) tucked away on an assuming street in Wolseong. From the outside it could pass as any old apartment block or car park, but on the roof there’s a fancy little secret… the Elybaden Infinity Pool. This is like a little slice of hotel heaven right in the middle of Dalseo-gu! The rooftop features an infinity pool, heated jet pool, sun beds, swing beds, an eating area, and on site bar with food and drinks.

And while the views may not be as nice as the ones at the pool at Suseong Hotel, at almost a third of the cost* Elybaden offers fantastic features for a fraction of the price.
*(Suseong Hotel: 70,000won/Elybaden 24,000won online or 30,000 at the door). To get the cheaper price you need to book through Naver, English options are available. If you book online you can get a ticket for a day pass to the pool, plus a pass for the bathhouse for only 24,000. At the door expect to pay a little more at 30,000. Still, this is definitely one of the cheaper rooftop pool prices and the ticket is a steal with the bathhouse included too. It’s easily a full and fun day out. I will make a separate post about the bathhouse later, for now I want to focus on the pool.

After giving your booking information at the main desk they give you a ticket with a number on. As the site is also a bathhouse, they have a no shoes policy. So first you need to drop your shoes off in the locker by reception. The number on your ticket tells you which locker to use. Afterwards scan in with the wristband, then take the elevator to the men’s floor or women’s floor. Here you also have a locker with the same number where you can change and store your belongings. You don’t need to bring a cash or card to the pool, your wristband is also used for payment. Basicially if you want to buy anything you scan the wristband, then pay the total when you leave. Convenient! After changing head to the back of the changing rooms where you can find a smaller service elevator to the roof.

When you enter you’ll first see the seating area, grab a spot to keep your stuff while you swim. It’s Korea so we felt safe leaving our bags and phones on the table. We went on a weekday so it was pretty quiet. As mentioned previously, there are sunbeds and a swing bed but these come at an extra fee (I believe 20 for a sunbed and 30 for the swing). We were there more for the pool than sunbathing so the table was fine for us. So after dropping off our stuff we hopped in for a swim.

The pool was a nice temp and pretty cooling for the hot summer day. You can swim up to the edge and look out over Wolseong, again not the most amazing view but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The pool isn’t very deep but deep enough to swim so we did a few laps to start. After that I was a bit peckish so hopped out to check out the food menu.

I’ll be honest, the prices for the food were a little steep. We planned to go for dinner after so I just ordered a hot dog (7,000) to keep me going. It was actually really yummy though and hit the spot! While ordering food we also spotted the cocktail menu… uh oh! Haha. The cocktails were decently priced though, we got two mojitos for 7,000 each and while not super strong, they did have a boozy kick.

The rooftop also has a heated bubble jet pool next to the main pool. We had fun dipping in the hot water then back in the cool to really feel the effects haha. After a bit more swimming we decided more drinks were in order, then we spotted the bottle menu. We decided to be extra fancy and got a cheap bottle of bubbly (35,000) which came out in an ice bucket with two glasses, ooh lala! We filled up a glass each and chilled next to the pool taking the odd dips with our drinks. They had music playing all day too so it was very relaxed and chill. The pool closes at 6pm so we headed out around 5 to check out the bathouse and spa on the floors below. Overall I had an amazingly chill day and I would 100% visit this pool again!
