Tucked away on a back street in downtown, Soil is a multi-floor cafe featuring mini aquariums!

I’d actually seen pics from Soil all over Instagram a while back and one evening, while trying to burn some time downtown, tried to find it. The map took me along the main road that runs above Primall and dropped me outside a random store front. I had a look around but couldn’t spot the cafe anywhere, and being short on time eventually gave up. A few weeks later I went back with a friend determined to find Soil, and the trick was that there was a very tiny side street that led into the area behind the store I’d been led to by Naver Maps before. I feel like this area is relatively new and had a few different cafes and other spots to try, so definitely worth going for an explore! But on this day in particular I NEEDED to check out Soil, and I’m so glad I did!

On the ground floor you can order your drinks, and there’s also a workshop behind the counter. The concept for this cafe is aquariums, and while I didn’t ask the owner I get the feeling he might make them himself, which is pretty cool if he does. The cafe offers a selection of drinks including filter coffees and milk teas, as well as a choice of baked goods and cakes. I ordered a fruity drink and a slice of Victoria Cake to split with my friend. After ordering you can find seats on the second, third, or rooftop floor! Pictures below!

The second floor had small tables set up, each with it’s own mini aquarium with little critters inside! We waited for our drinks and cake and chose a table with a mini aquarium. The atmosphere was overall very chill, and there were misting machines set up for the plants so it felt a bit like you were in a tropical rainforest! The drink and cake were pretty decent, and it was fun to sit and watch the aquarium while we enjoyed them. After eating we decided to check out the rest of the floors.

Happy customers!

We headed on up to explore more, and the third floor actually had full size aquariums with fish inside!!!! We actually wanted to sit here but there was a group of young Korean girls taking over the area for selfies and we didn’t want to disturb them haha. It’s a great cafe for Insta shots so i can’t blame them! But we did go and have a little poke around to see what was on offer. If i go again I definitely want to try and get a seat up here with the fishies!

There was also a small rooftop area with nice views of the courtyard below. There weren’t any aquariums out here (probably for obvious reasons!) but it was a nice little spot nonetheless and I imagine would be nice for a warm spring or autumn evening. In all this is a great little spot, the concept is pretty unique and I haven’t seen anything else like it yet so certainly one of my recommendations to check out!
