Hello, it’s been a while! Unfortunately since the start of semester I have been absolutely swamped at work and so personal projects (like this blog) have been put on the back burner. However, I have still been out and about and have loads of new content to share so please kepp checking back for updates as more are coming soon. I’ve been planning to get this post up for months so finally getting it done today, motivation yeah!

Since coming to Korea in 2016 I’ve wanted to try some kind of skin treatment, I wasn’t particularly fussy about which one just something to give my skin a quick boost to look better. My friend had visited the Dr. Designer clinic and was pretty impressed with the results, so off her recommendation I decided to check it out. (Also to note this was a couple of months ago and I was so pleased with the results I went back again with my boyfriend for a couple’s skincare day just a couple of weeks ago haha).

On both trips I opted for an Aquapeel, as I felt this was a pretty basic treatment to start with for a first-timer. The first time I came here I actually booked through My Beauty Trip, and I would recommend this website as they offer their services in English and can help with arranging and booking your appointment. Dr. Designer also has several locations across Daegu, and the My Beauty Trip website details the locations of all the branches so it’s easy to find one near you and book through their English helpline.

The second time I tried to book directly with the clinic, and did find it a little more difficult as the website was only in Korean. Also on arrival they said what I had booked was a little cheaper than my previous treatment, but not as extensive. To be honest if you’re going for the first time or your Korean isn’t up to scratch for booking, using the My Beauty Trip page will probably be a lot easier. If you feel confident in your Korean and know exactly what you want, then you can also book through Naver. I’ll go into a little more detail about the treatments I got each time below too!

So after making my booking it was time to visit the clinic! It’s located in a large building just a short walk from Jukjeon Station exit 1, I believe on the second floor but it is signposted next to the elevator so you will be able to find it easily. On arrival there is a clean and modern waiting area (above), the reception staff don’t speak English but knew enough to direct us to fill out the forms. You will be asked for some personal details like name, ARC number, address, etc. on arrival. After waiting a short time we were taken to the consultation room.

Again the staff here didn’t speak English, but were very helpful and explained everything through Papago. They basically want to check which treatment you want, and whether you have had any issues with skin treatments in the past. After you confirm everything they will take you to a locker to store any bags or coats, and then a room to wash your face to remove any skin care, sun lotion, or anything else you may have applied in the morning.

You are then take to a second waiting area to wait for the treatment. On both occasions I got the Aquapeel, and both times was taken to a room with 4 beds with dividers between and asked to lay down. The Aquapeel itself consists of a kind of suction stage where they use what seems to be a vacuum cleaner for your skin to suck out all the bad stuff. (I am a skin care novice so please excuse my descriptions here!). Then they apply a thin mask and do an LED light treatment for several minutes. After this they apply a thick cooling mask for another few minutes. During this stage they apply the mask over your full face and only leave nose holes, so be aware if stuff like that makes you nervous! I know it’s supposed to be relaxing but the first time I went I didn’t exepct the light treatment or the thick mask so it was all a bit sudden, but the second time I knew what was coming so enjoyed it a lot more haha! After this you’re good to go, and the whole process takes around 30 mins. It feels pretty nice and relaxing and I enjoyed the experience of having it done, especially the second time when I knew more what to expect.

The main difference I noticed in the treatments was that the first time I went they also offered to remove my milia (small white cysts). I have a real issue with these so was really happy that it was included. During this step they make very very tiny incisions in your skin to remove the cyst, and then squeeze it to pop it out. It is honestly a little painful and does leave marks on your face for about a week, but as I had such a huge issue with the this was totally worth getting done in my opinion, and I was sad they didn’t include it the second time when I booked myself. Next time I go I’m planning to book through My Beauty Trip so I can get the exact treatment I want. I included some after photos from the milia treatment below. It doesn’t look great right away because of the cuts but it honestly looked soooo much better after healing (see below!)

Overall though on both occassions I was very satisfied with the results. My skin looked fresh and smooth, and it was a lovely treat to have it done before my birthday weekend. My boyfriend was also impressed with his results when he visited, and it seemed to work well even though he had a short beard at the time. He was positively glowing right after, even more than me! I was a bit jealous haha.
I would honestly highly recommend Dr. Designer as both occassions the treatments have had great results, and the service I have received there has also been excellent. Please let me know if you visit here and what you think about it! Or if you can recommend another skin treatment I would love to hear from you! It’s my pay day soon so I’m planning to go back again.
