Yutaro (유타로) – downtown/Jung-gu

We love the anime vibe at both of Yutaro’s downtown locations!

When I have a craving for Japanese ramen Yutaro has been my go to restaurant for several years now. Nestled on a little side street not far from the stage in downtown, Yutaro has become so popular it now has two locations on the same street! The original store is very small and is now only open during weekends, while the newer and bigger store (featured here) is open every day of the week. Having tried both, the food is exactly the same and both stores are similarly decorated with loads of anime and Ghibli merch so whichever store you visit the experience will be the same!

As a big anime nerd, the first time I came to Yutaro I was in LOVE with the decor and look of the place. The walls are packed with posters, jigsaws, toys, and figurines from everything from One Piece to Nausicaa. The music matches with loads of fun anime and movie tunes creating a magical weeby atmosphere 😂 You could honestly spend ages here just looking at all the different prints and toys, and it’s worth going back just to sit in a different seat and admire the store from another viewpoint.

The menu offers several varieties of ramen bowls, rice bowls with toppings, and a smattering of other dishes including okonomiyaki and sides of mandu. I’ve tried several of the menu items here, but my go to favourite has always been the Shiro (시로) ramen (8,000). This is Yutaro’s original ramen made with their own noodles, and it never fails to satisfy. Especially in winter the broth is so warm and filling, it’s a perfect dish to warm your soul. If you’re feeling hungry you can also add extra egg or pork for a small fee.

Another recommendation (not pictured here) is the chicken rice bowl (8,000). The chicken has a delicious marinade and mixed up with the rice and various veggies is a welcome change if you aren’t feeling the ramen. Whatever you choose I’m sure you’ll be satisified with Yutaro’s hearty Japanese menu!
