What a spread!

So with vacation ending soon some friends and I decided to make the most of it today and go to Shinsegae Department Store for a lunch time dim sum feast! I’d heard good things about Dim Dim Sum so was pretty excited to try their menu. Even though the restaurant is pretty big and we arrived around 1.30 on a Friday afternoon there was still a huge queue outside! We had to get a ticket and wait. Apparently this is pretty common so expect a wait time if you come here, the screen outside will give you a ticket and displays the current number.

Get a ticket and be ready to wait a little for a seat!

If you are waiting a while you can exit the building to the doors opposite the restaurant and take a little walk around the rooftop area. It’s a good way to waste some time! There’s some fun little sculptures and great views of the city too!

We had to wait about 30 mins for a seat so not too bad. The menu here is pretty big and we wanted to try a lot of different items, so went for the set menu B for 3 people, and it cost 59,000. This included a great selection of items, and for a one off special vacation lunch the price isn’t too bad. The set menu for 3 included:

  • steamed shrimp dumplings (4pcs)
  • shrimp and pork dumplings (4pcs)
  • soup dumplings (4pcs)
  • rice flour rolls with BBQ pork (3pcs)
  • stuffed eggplants with terikyaki sauce (3pcs)
  • spring rolls with shrimp (3pcs)
  • blanched bok choy with soy sauce
  • roasted duck on stirred noodles
  • steamed glutinous rice in lotus leaf
  • pickles
  • Jasmine Tea

They also offered a 2 person set A (39,000), 4 person set C (79,000) or you could pick and choose individual items from the menu. The menu from outside is below, and worth a look while you’re waiting so you can pick what you want!

Lots of choice!

I honestly cannot complain about any of the menu items we got (except the pickles, I don’t like pickles haha). Evereything was delicious! I’ll say a brief bit about each item starting with the bok choy (top left).

First row: Bok choy is not my favourite vegetable by far but this was a nice vegetable side with all the other menu items, while nothing to write home about it was fine. My friend loved it though! Next is the aubergine/eggplant. I usually hate aubergine but this was genuinely delicious! I often find it slimey but the texture of this was fine and the sauce went well with it. The spring rolls were fine too, nice and crispy! What more do you need? The last pic is the soup and shrimp dumplings, more info below!

Second row: The rice flour rolls with BBQ pork was a favourite of everyone. These were so deliicous, the pork was tasty and the rolls added a sticky texture that went well. The soup dumplings are next, and this was one of my favourites too. I’ve never had them before but they were soft and full of flavour! Last is the shrimp dumplings, I’m not a huge shrimp fan so these were not my favourite but still tasted fine!

Bottom rows: First the pork and shrimp dumplings. Super yummy! This was one my friend wanted to have and she was pretty satisfied with them so we’ll give them an A+ Next is the duck and noodles. This was probably my number one, I absolutely love duck and don’t get to eat it much, plus the sauce with the noodles was AMAZING. The only sad part was I wanted more duck! The last one is the sticky rice which came in a lotus leaf. When you break open the rice there’s pork and sauce inside. Again, not the biggest fan of sticky rice but when mixed with the filling it was super tasty! But, very filling so be careful with this one!

That’s a lot of tatsy food!

Overall I was pretty satisfied with Dim Dim Sum! I left full but not bloated, it was a good amount of food for 3 people. 20,000 each isn’t the cheapest, but as an occasional treat I think well worth the money. You get such a wide selection of good tasting food it’s definitely worth every penny! (won?!?!)
